When you’re looking for employment, benefits can make or break your job offer. While most employees are looking at health care, retirement savings, and paid vacation days, there are others who may look for something extra. Here are some of the most intriguing benefits out there.

Facebook – Baby Cash

Newborn parents who work at the social media giant are given $4,000 after their child is born, in addition to reimbursement for childcare costs. New parents are also offered four months of paid parental leave. For those who adopt children, Facebook will provide reimbursement for adoption-related fees.

Starbucks – College Achievement Program

The coffee giant has a partnership with Arizona State University to help its employees obtain bachelor’s degrees. Both part-time and full-time employees can receive full reimbursement for each year of bachelor degree studies through online classes. Starbucks employees have access to their own enrollment advisors and can apply directly through them.

Burton Snowboards – Powder Days

Employees at Burton’s headquarters in Burlington, Vermont are literally given a “snow day” if it snows more than two feet within 24 hours. With several mountains for skiing and snowboarding within an hour’s drive, employees are able to use their season pass for their mountain of choice (which is also paid for by Burton) and get out on the slopes. Burton also offers its employees steeply discounted snowboarding gear, making the sport accessible to everyone at their headquarters.

Bain & Company – World Cup

Not many Boston-based employees can say they’ve met people from their Buenos Aires office. While it’s not exactly a benefit, Bain has invited employees from offices around the world to participate in a two-day soccer tournament each year since 1987. Teams from each office practice together, and then travel to the tournament. This year’s tournament will take place in Los Angeles.

Timberland – Volunteer PTO

The footwear company offers a program called Path of Service™, where each employee receives 40 hours of time off dedicated to making a difference in the community. This can be done through environmental cleanups, creating hiking trails, or helping schools build better classrooms. The company gives employees time to volunteer on Earth Day in April and hosts Serve-palooza to help employees give back to their communities.
